Name This Trick

Hey folks,

I hope everyone is doing well. There's a trick I've been doing for a couple years but I cannot remember where I learned the trick from. I can't recall if I read the trick somewhere or if I thought of it independently. I'm almost certain the trick does have an origin. The trick is quick and direct and fools everyone I've done it for. It's done with a normal deck of cards and pure sleight of hand. Can someone please let me know who's trick is it and the source? Here's the trick:

I have a spectator select a card, memorize it and returned to the deck. I then shuffle the deck a few times and then I table it. I ask the spectator to think of any number between 1 and 20 and once they've thought of a number, I ask them to name the number out loud. After calling out their thought of number, I then pick up the deck and deal to the number they thought of. So, if they thought of the number 10 then I deal 10 cards face down on the table. After suitable patter, I have them name the card they selected and then I have them turn over the top card of the cards I dealt on the table. This 10th card is their selected card.

Does anyone know what trick is this? Many thanks!!

Best,

Roberto

Second Deal Card Trick :?:
If so, I would bet my life that this trick was published by Ed Marlo somewhere... ;)

With a faced deck, no need to second deal (very old method)

For Marlo: RCT, chapter 8, Second, Center, Bottom, 1960. See Concluding Observations

Thank you gentlemen. Yes, I'm aware this is a ACAN plot, I was just hoping to discover if the trick has been published by anyone as I described above. I will definitely look up, Second Deal Card Trick, by Marlo.

Phillippe,

What do you mean by a "faced deck"? Thanks again!

A faced deck means two portions face to face. It's a very old method which permits to do differents tricks.

For instance, you can do A Stop Trick or a Card at any Number or an Ace Assembly, even a spelling trick.

If you have The Secret Out, published in 1870 and edited by William Cremer (easy to find in PDF), read "To Foresee a Person's Thoughts", page 49

Barrie Richardson published some excellent work on this topic.

As Annemann said: "Sh-h-h-- ! It's a Secret" (in 1934)

Don't tell us that Richardson does an ACAAN.

Damned! I wrote it! The secret is lost...
