Help with Piedrahita's CSB please

All:

Luis Piedrahita describes his CSB routine on his "Three Routines" video and I believe there is a YouTube performance of the routine on-line as well.

In the second phase, he tosses the gimmick to the table and it splits.

Does anyone have any specific techniques or tips to get the gimmick to split consistently and not be exposed? or is it just a move one must just get a knack for with practice?

Many thanks!

Sounds like a knack. He probably did it by accident one day and kept it.

I find it's more likely to split in the right way if I follow forward - parallel to the surface of the table - with the knuckle of the right hand, after the 'coin' has been thrown; sort of dropping the coin off as the hand moves forward.

Thanks, PapaG---I'll try it.

Do you hold the gaff completely perpendicular when you let go? I notice that Luis seems to hold the coin slightly leaning towards himself, but for me, that's been a non-starter.

Yes. And I let go before finishing the forward motion of the throw.

IMO . . . I think part of what helps is that he uses Todd's coins. That coupled with dollar sized (weight) I believe plays a partial role in this.

It’s actually easier to get the knack of making half dollars split than full dollars.

Mark: That's an interesting point: I think Todd's insert edges are beveled, right? I wonder if that helps. I'll try out a Schoolcraft dollar set to see if it makes a difference. I haven't had 100% consistency with Mark Mason's half dollar set yet.

(I wish Todd would consider making more dollar size (or even half dollar sized) CSB, but that appears rather unlikely at this point).

I wonder who created the CSB gimmick...

Thank you!
As a great gimmick I really wanted to know the great mind that created it.
I'm not fond of doing coin magic, but I'm fond of
doing coin-card magic.
Here is a routine by Reed McClintock using the gimmick with cards, performed by a great performer from one of my favourite personal Youtube channel: tomosanb
https://youtu.be/DI-o5Hd8oxs
It's in Japanese, but we all understand the Magic Language.
