Nestor Hato on Fool Us

Postby Tom Frame » September 25th, 2019, 6:46 pm

Nestor Hato fooled P&T and slaughtered me a beautiful, impenetrable switching technique! I've never seen anything like it. I've watched the video a dozen times and I can't see any dirty work. Penn mentioned something about Nestor possibly holding out a block of cards, but I saw nothing. Does anyone have any ideas about what the hell he is doing?

should we really care?

Any one here could duplicate the effect.

It probably would not appear as smooth but we don't have the audience eyeballs constantly changing frames.

And we don't know what happened between frames.

If the producers really wanted this to appear as high quality magic, they would keep the camera focused on the work.

They are not doing it for our eyes.

However, the goal is to entertain, right.

Now, before someone accuses me of saying it was all a setup, consider this.
Perhaps the cards are shaved.
There are four cards protruding from the deck.
A quick push pull could substitute one set of four for another. (sounds like a good idea anyway)
There is a possibility the final editors thought that did not look good and cut out a second of the timeline.
Thus, there would be no conspiracy and life moves on.

If memory serves me well, Nestor's trick was marketed some ten years ago under the name of "Nestorized". The DVD was directed by Jean-Luc Bertrand, who also directed some other nice DVDs such as David Stone's and Yannick Chrétien's.

Just curious. Was this already sold out or did this mention cause a run?

Thanks!

I was unfamiliar with this marketed item. Consequently, Nestor's audition video (not the video on the website referenced above) fooled me completely. I know several methods for accomplishing this effect. Nestor's method isn't one of them. It looks as good from a foot away as it did on TV. No editing tricks, no camera tricks. We don't do that on FU. Just a great frickin' method.

I’m sure you don’t Mr. Close. Just an attempt at humor towards an effect that blew me away.

I had read someplace that Penn said that when recording a trick for display publicly, he did it in one shot to avoid people from suggesting using camera tricks. Observing Nestor's presentation there were several cut aways. In view of Penn's statement and the effectiveness of Nestor's presentation, I wondered what was going on. I am glad FU and Nestor are people of honor.
