Daley's Delight Switch - invented by Charlie Chaplin?

Here is an interesting tidbit from The Book of Numbers - Volume 3 by Docc Hilford.

This is from page 47.
Now, perform the envelope switch. The history of this move goes back to a gag used by Charlie Chaplin. It's contemporary use is based on a gypsy envelope switch used in a con game, but I've seen it used with forks by Banachek and know that mentalists such as Bob Cassidy use it.

He then goes on to describe the workings of Dr. Jacob Daley's Delight Switch.

Does this mean it should be credited to Charlie Chaplin?

I wonder what film it appears in?

Id like to think it was The Circus but I bet it was one in which he played The Little Tramp.

That switch also appears in the first issue of Mahatma, done with slates.

Barrie Richardson has another way to do this switch. See it in his Act Two (2005)

That would be great to find a clip of Chaplin doing the switch.

Tangentially... Houdini wrote as "nosey" in the same place as the ad for a book by "erdnase"? ?

If I knew it were in one of the feature films, I'd spend my time looking. But without knowing if it might be in one of the shorts, the best hope I have is running across it someday by accident.
