Jennings Wallet

Postby Steve Mills » April 4th, 2016, 11:34 am

Many years ago, I bought a Jennings Card To Wallet from Jeff Buzzbee. Despite the fact that I ordered black, I received a hideous grey one. I realized I would never use it, so I sold it.

Can anyone tell me what was different about this wallet or was it a standard card to wallet marinated in great quantities of Buzzbee BS.

Thanks!

The wallet also came with a 13 page manuscript, "Busby-Corin, Inc. Presents Larry Jennings' Card-In-Envelope Wallet" written by Jeff Busby. In it, he claims that his is the "only version of the Jennings wallet authorized by Larry Jennings." He says his is different because it was made of "the best supple leathers." He then goes on to describe the wallet's construction which sounds exactly like the now standard Jennings-type wallet.

That aside, it's actually a pretty useful manuscript, with quite a few references and various ideas on how to prepare the envelope, rapid loading strategies, a routine by Marin Lewis, a few no-palm methods (including Mendoza's routine), and various tips/tweaks. It also includes Busby's usual commentary about competing products, allegations of thievery/unoriginality, etc.

It would be nice to have access to that manuscript. ;) Isn't it public domain at this point?

It certainly isn't public domain. It's protected for 70 years beyond the death of the author, I believe, even if the author was a lying sack of [censored].

On that subject: I'm a little surprised that Mr. Busby's heirs haven't started republishing some of his manuscripts (some of which sell relatively well on the auction sites). Maybe he had a Hofzinser clause in his will?

Busby didn't leave behind any heirs beyond his widow Vicki Grismer. The publishing fate of his literary output seems to be in limbo these days, although as Erdnasephile points out, he is still enjoying healthy sales on auction sites. I suppose that in the After Life you can still sell your products well in the After Market.

Hofzinser had no such clause--that's a fallacy amply debunked by Magic Christian.

Whilst I know there ain't no Sanity Clause I confess I've never heard of the Hofzinser Clause, debunked or otherwise.
Information appreciated.

Hofzinser allegedly requested that all his magic equipment & notebooks etc. be destroyed after his death.

"Allegedly" being the operative word. It's not true, just a myth.

Thankyou!

I had heard this before, but wasn’t aware that it had reached such heights as to acquire the status of a name.

Leo:

I don't think the myth had acquired a name. I suspect I might've coined the term (wrongly, it seems).

Perhaps, I should have called it the "Pope John Paul II Clause" : http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/bo ... 6808105431

Further: In Thaumaturgist #13, while excoriating a particular publisher for allegedly intending to release a book regarding Charlie Miller's magic, Busby wrote: "Charlie didn't want to do a book no matter how much money was involved. Charlie Miller wanted his material destroyed." (emphasis per original).
