Ring Vanish Ideas

Postby MagicJB » February 10th, 2014, 8:07 pm

All, looking for some approaches to vanish a ring from a ring box in a ring-to-impossible location effect. Basically, I'd like to put a ribbon through a ring and then put the ring into a velvet ring box. Ring vanishes and can then appear in another location. I've heard of a "thumb steal" approach. Does anyone know who originated this move and where it is taught to learn more? Many thanks...

Check out Al Schneider's "Off." You can learn it from: "The Al Schneider Technique - Vol 2: Close-up - DVD". It works with a ribbon as well as a rope and solves the first part of your problem. Either a thumb steal or any retention vanish solves the second part of the problem, depending on the nature of the ring box you are using. You could also use a "dump box" to retrieve the ring from the box after the lid is closed, but I don't know of any commercial versions so you might have to construct one of those from scratch.
