good close up resources - can you suggest a few
good close up resources - can you suggest a few
Hi, in my library of roughtly about 250 books, pamplets and lecture notes, I noticed the other day that the vast majority of it (i would say 80%)is card magic. Now I love card magic, but I am now in search of non card close up effects. There are some close up effects here and there in some of the books , but that is too few and not enough. I do have the Close Up cavalcade books, vernon chronicles, art of close up magic 1 and 2, apocalypse books and most of the major publications. I am looking for any suggestions you may have in non card close up books or books that have a good balance of card and non card close up magic.

FORK FULL OF APPETIZERS has a lot of great close-up magic, some with cards, some with coins, and some with other objects.

The books you mentioned should be sufficient, especially the Ganson books and Apocalypse. Want more? How about:
Kort by Steven Minch
Carneycopia by Steven Minch
Tricks by David Ben
Wonderful Routines of Magic by Ellison Poland
Any of Eugene Burger's books
Anything by Paul Harris
The Complete Mike Rogers
Any of David Regal's books
Those are the ones which come to mind at the moment. Should be a most pleasant voyage for you. Good luck!

Michael Close's Workers Books and DVDs have many routines that are non-card using business cards, bills, some coins and several effects based on origami figures. Great stuff.

You can perform magic without cards??? Wow, who knew? I believe any of the periodicals put into hardback form would work. Richard's almanac, any of the Fulves publications, Pheonix, and of course, the afformentioned Apocolypse.

gg: Time is the major resource that you should fill perfecting a half dozen routines from what you already have.....I would not give up my Ganson books and the Apocalypse bound volumes...

Patience, ggarcia31! Wesley James has "Enchantments II" at the publishers, and it's only a matter of time before this is released. It deals entirely with non-card closeup! There is a good chance that this will be combined with Wesley's coin book (also sitting at the publisher).
I agree with most of the previous listings. However, here are a few that haven't been mentioned:
* Minotaur
* Masternotebook of Magic (Wagner)
* Expert Coin Magic (David Roth)
* Coin Magic (Kaufman)
* Smoke & Mirrors (Bannon)
Minotaur was dedicated to non-card closeup, and there is quite a bit of interesting stuff in there.
Bye for now
Harold

Martin Gardner's Encyclopedia of Impromptu Magic has great non card magic.
(This was originally printed in installments in Hugards Magic Monthly.)

Jerry Mentzer did about four volumes of Close-Up Cavalcade of nothing but non-card close up material.
Have a good one,
Bob Phillips

Mr. Mentzer authored three Close-up Cavalcade books to be exact:
Close-up Cavalcade (1973)
Another Close-up Cavalcade (1975)
Close-up Cavalcade Finale (1977)
Finale is still in print and can be found on his web site along with several other fine books (link below).

You may already have won...sorry, wrong message.Originally posted by ggarcia31:

What I mean to say, is that your card books may contain more non-card tricks than you think.
Do you have The Classic Magic of Larry Jennings? It has coin magic and cups and balls.
Do you have card books by Harry Lorayne? He always includes at least one non-card effect.
Have you got
Secrets Draun from Underground?
Check out the three marble effect.
And so on.
