Keith,

Obviously, I would love it if everyone loved what I had to write about. It would be my hope that each and every person who subscribed to The Menu would read my column. I hope that you read it and I hope that you found it informative.

But as I have learned over the years, no matter what I do, say, or write about, there will be folks out there who won't like it. There is little that I can do to fix that issue as it's a variable that remains out of my control. I have a lot of fans out there in the Magic Community who enjoy what I write, agree with my opinions and support my effort (I hope that you are one of them).

But it's unrealalistic to think that every person will agree with me. So if one doesn't like what I have to say, then they don't have to read it.

My guess is, that I'll be pretty safe for January with my column becuase it's an advice column. Pretty safe stuff. However, for my 3rd column, I will return to "rant" mode.

Thanks for subscribing...glad to have you along for the ride...

Christopher

Is the Magic Menu going to run a "Seven Keynes" routine?.....

Sisti did a good job with the original Menus; I suspect that, like all magazines, there will be, according to different opinions, some good, bad, and ugly....That's life, and one cannot have a full plate all the time...

Mix it up, Sisti; that's the key, and you cannot toss a seven every time....

Perhaps it would be nice to see some of the planned routines for future issues....

Silly Walter wrote that Paul Gordon's Twister and Diminishing Not Likely were not new.
I pointed out that Paul's write up of Twister in Apocalypse acknowledged it was based on something by Max Maven.
But - Diminishing Not Likely, with its combination of a Diminishing Lift Sequence and an Elmsley Count, is clever. And I don't know where it had been published before. Maybe I'm missing soomething. Is that based on something else? Or is that a really good, new, contribution to card magic?

Dear El Mystico,

It's not that new. I first published (in lecture notes) Diminishing? Not Likely! circa 1983. It then appeared in book form in Protean Card Magic (1996). It's been on most videos/dvds of mine since the late 80's.

Glad you like it, though...

Someone should write a column on how to create fake publicity photos and pass them off to Magic forums as if they were the real deal.

You mean like backstage gig photos? Or studio photos? How are the latter not the real deal?

Specifically the need to hire a professional photographer rather than just an "idiot" with a camera. Of course, you would want to talk about proper lighting, action shots, attire, etc.

Walter might be Silly, but hes right. I would also add that its a big help if the photographer understands magic. They are out there and three that Ive worked with on many of my Genii articles are (in alphabetical order) Pete Biro, Kari Hendler, and Damon Webster. They are all great at what they do.

My favourite magic photo of all time is of three magicians at a black tie event. They were posing for a photo *after* entertaining The Queen. No sign of her or any sign of her being there but, hey, the caption says it so it must be true!

They didn't say which "Queen," did they? Lots of queens around. :)

I don't get the "passing them off to magic forums" comment. Has someone been doing this?

Something that happened somewhere else, and was busted somewhere elser.

Did it have something to do with the Magic Menu? Stop being so coy and intriguing, Ian!

It had nothing directly to do with MM. Really, it's not worth bothering about...

That's pretty bad but that's exactly the kind of stuff I was talking about.

I can think of two other cases similar to that:

1. Ernie Bryant, gambling expert, had a newspaper that featured a headline stating that Ernie had bankrupted a casino (from cheating). The problem was it was a newspaper you would have created with your name in the headline, like you would get at an american amusement park. My cousin was athlete of the year on the cover of Sports Illustrated when he went to Six Flags a long time ago. He had a publicity photo with him holding that newspaper.

2. This one is even funnier! Some magician claimed that someone went backstage and took some photos of him during a performance. From what I understand, the photo actually looked great. It was the finale' of a stage routine performed at one of his shows. Unfortunately someone noticed that the photo appeared a bit odd and upon further research, determined the photo to be a fake (I was told it was taken in a practice space - perhaps a spare room because there were props and other magic related items around). When he was outed, he immediately took the photos down and then tried to claim it was all a big joke. He's a big numpty if you ask me.

I would love to see the Queen photo. It should have stated "Not pictured - the Queen".

I don't get the relevance. Does Ernie Bryant write for the Magic Menu?

Nope. It was the second one.

Really, it's not worth it.

I doubt that Ernie would be writing for the Magic Menu. He passed away several years ago and has been out of the restaurant scene ever since.

I don't see that as an impediment. He couldn't be any less stimulating that Chris Lyle's columns.
