Giving Garcia and Kaufman proper credit

Postby M. Yandorf » June 15th, 2009, 4:05 pm

How did Magic Makers Inc. get away with this?

The DVD released by Magic Makers titled, "Encyclopedia of Sponge Ball Magic" is in fact an uncredited video incarnation of the book with the SAME NAME by Garcia and Kaufman. The book is out of print, but those of you who have the book will notice that the table of contents of the book is exactly the same as the DVD.

Yes, Garcia and others are credited for a few specific slights, but there is no acknowledgement for the book of the same name, it's author, or it's illustrator.

Hey Rob Stiff... How about giving Kaufman and Garcia proper credit for creating the original book?

Better still, how about not infringing a copyright by creating "derivative work" without license/permission?

I didn't illustrate that book for Frank. But even had I done so, it would have been a "work for hire" and I would have no say in what is done with it.

My mistake, sorry, the illustrations look very Kaufman-like.

The artist was Ed Tricomi (I believe)--a professional illustrator and his drawings were better than mine. I think Frank started using me because I was cheaper. :)
