Dai Vernon on the "mem deck"?

Postby Paco Nagata » August 1st, 2019, 5:29 pm

Do you know if The Professor devoted much time to the memorised deck concept?
As far as I know, not much. Actually I don't know any trick by him regading a mem deck.

Well, now I feel kind of relief, because I'm not so ignorant as I imagine. Thank you!

Entry 9 in the Daley Notebooks, Vernon's Mental Trick, uses the Nicola set up, but only for 13 cards.

Hola Paco nagata

Saludos!

Maybe Vernon used a stack but just never talked about it.

In Volume Eleven of The Vernon Revelations videos and dvds, Vernon describes his method of memorizing a deck of cards and describes an effect where a card is removed and, due to the memory cues, determined which card was missing. So, yes, Vernon did use a memorized pack.

Hola Mr. Charming!
I'm from Spain :) but I like Argentina a lot, specially because there are very good card magicians ;)
Thank you very much for having a look to my book. It took me 25 years to write it. It's a kind of autobiography card magic life as amateur, plenty of ideas, anecdotes, pieces of advises according to experiences, etc... Interesting specially for family amateurs like me.
Coming back to the subject, it is something that surprise a lot to me that a magician like Dai Vernon didn't work very much on the concept of memorised deck, since it's a really good and powerful tool for card magic, and Vernon worked very hard on card magic.

I've heard or read (don't remember where) that Vernon used to use the Laurie Ireland stack for some mem deck effect. But don't know what effects.

Thank you very much for your information. I was really interesting in knowing what The Professor did regarding the concept of memorised deck. I'm quite keen on this kind of card magic. I have some little personal ideas in my book of card magic that everybody can check if have time.

Paco, I downloaded your English translation of "The Passion of an Amateur Card Magician," and I want to commend you on what appears to be an impressive and highly readable magic book. I read the introduction while the PDF was downloading and was impressed with the flow of your translation as well as your grasp of writing what I think of as "conversational" English that clearly communicates while also being enjoyable to read.

I can see that you've put a tremendous amount of time and effort into this project, and I know I'm going to enjoy working my way through all 554 pages. I'm especially interested in checking out your extensive section on the memorized deck, which has long been one of my card magic obsessions.

Thank you for making your book available to those of us who share your passion for card magic.

I can only echo chetday's comment, Paco.

Your book seems to be a wonderful labor of love, and I look forward to diving into it!

How very humble of you to just hide the link in your signature, and how very generous to share it with us for free or without asking for anything in return.

Muchas gracias, it is much appreciated!

When you asked your initial question I quite rudely thought that you were just asking a general question without any real knowledge. I am sorry I was so presumptuous. I am very impressed in your writing and your love for our craft! well done!

Chetday, you cannot imagine how happy you made me for those kind words! Thank you very much for your appreciation.
It's a pleasure and a dream for me to finally share my magic experience life to every card magic lover.
I was very lucky for being so precocious with the art of card magic, although I never became a professional, but just a familly, plain, casual (good) card magician.
Again, a thousand thanks!

I'm very happy to be able (finally) to share this work with every card magic lover.
Please don't feel rush or committed to read it. I don't want people to use their valious time to read my book. Just read it when you don't have any other important thing to do regarding magic.
Thank you so much for your interest and kind words!
By the way, I've visited your blog as well :)

WOW! Will you? Thank you very much!
I'm really sorry that I'm not a very cybernetic man. So, I don't have a blog, specially because a have no much time for it.
I mean that I would hardly be able to update it often, so it wouldn't worth it and that's the reason I prefered to show my book entire in PDF, instead of show it step by step by a blog.
To be sincere, I'm kind of fed up with computers ;) because I work with them!

My blog entry is online now:

https://zzzauber.wordpress.com/2019/08/ ... r-of-love/

It's not really a review of the book, more an appreciation of Paco's effort and demeanor, plus some thoughts what's wrong with magic today and why we could need some more unselfish aficionados like him!
