The Tenyo Tricks for 2021

Postby Zig Zagger » October 10th, 2020, 4:21 am

I haven't seen this posted here yet, so here we go:

Tenyo has recently announced their set of new tricks for 2021.

- T-294 Magical Honeycomb (by So Sato), a double transposition of two cardboard hexagons
- T-295 The Blur (by Mathieu Bich), a card effect with a gimmicked deck where all cards turn blurred, except for the chosen one
- T-296 Magic Tweezers (by Kenichi Komiya, original idea by Mario Lopez), a fine visual appearance of coins out of a mystery card with a small hole in it
- T-297 Cheek to Cheek, a gimmicked version of “Triumph”.

Judging from the videos on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICfvVTqRxS8), the “Magic Tweezers” trick is my favorite from the 2021 line-up (but I will probably use an old credit card with a punched hole it its center).

The tricks should start shipping from magic dealers within a week or two.

I can't stop messing around with the Magical Honeycomb. It looks very cool over Zoom. No worries about angles or grabbing items. I've loved this optical illusion for years, and of course, Tenyo made just the right adjustments to make it a great magic trick.

If I could only choose one, I would get the Blur.

Can American coins and bills be subbed for the Tweezer effect?

Yes, you can use any flat item: coin, small playing card, folded bill, etc.

The gimmick is not easy to manipulate.

In fact, neither the coins nor the bill are included. Not a problem at all, just saying.

Thanks to this forum I was alerted to the existence of these new tricks. Instructions that come with it are in Japanese, and even though illustrated are not adequate for me to interpret. The box says the instructions in English are online, I'm looking them up.

...found the instructions. Indeed the little strips are double sided tape, but extremely thin. I had to use a sharp Swiss Army knife blade to separate the tape from the protective covers. Take it slowly. The tape itself is clear, very thin, sticky plastic.

The English instructions for the tweezer effect are less useful in explaining how to install the gaff. I can install it, but it doesn't look as 'clean' as the one in the video does. I'll have to experiment with the, maybe bend the tweezers slightly. Or just knowing how it works now I could take the time to fabricate a slightly better implementation. Still a tremendous trick though.

Instructions suggest US quarters and a dollar bill.

Lubor's Anti-Gravity Rock is a terrific trick. He did it for me in London before it came out and walloped me badly. It's a very clever combination of two principles that make the result seem impossible.

I suppose as far as Tenyo goes, that is correct. However, I find the gimmick to be quite easy to manipulate with just a little practice in front of a mirror. I've been using a US gold dollar coin, which is a nice size and contrast to the silver tweezers. And I've been plucking it out of a small clear bottle. It really looks terrific. I've already elicited gasps from family members with this.

What works best for me (so far) is to quickly lift straight up and turn the hand 90 degrees to display the coin. You don't need to make contact with the lever at all - just let it fall into place.

To me, this trick has an old 19th century feel about it, both in method and effect.

You must be holding it upside down if your gimmick can "fall into place."

Then I suppose I am. I'm holding it like I'm playing Operation - dipping the tweezer straight down, then pulling up quickly. I find it much easier and very effective. When it's at an angle, say 45 degrees, that's when it becomes difficult to operate IMHO.
