Zig Zag with a French Fry at McD's
Yasuo Amano, who runs a fun Tenyo blog called Hey Presto!, just posted his handling of "Zig Zag Cig" done with a French Fry.

Very cool! Wish I'd thought of that presentation! (Still not sure if the cigarette or the french fry is more hazardous to one's health though )

Neither is hazardous if you don't smoke/eat it.

Please put that in the book. Or even better, please tell me it's too late to put something else in the book!

The marking bit is pretty strong done live, but in a video I think it exposes the method. It's not something that I would forward to my laymen friends.

What do you mean, Bill? The video was made by a blogger, not McD's. How does it expose the method?

Apologies to the mods for the off topic post.
Are you (I hope) the same Bill Duncan who used to teach coin magic at Marvin's Marvelous Magic? If so, I've been trying to find a way to contact you for a long time. I just tried sending you a PM and failed ("user does not exist"). I've never sent a PM here before, and I don't know whether I screwed it up, or whether your profile settings are set that way. In any event, if you're the Bill Duncan I knew years ago, I'd very much like to talk to you.

I dunno--there's something about performing magic with my hands all greasy that gives me the willies.

I agree that his presentation of that classic Tenyo trick is very clever and perfect when performing it for a teenage fast food customer for example.
Perhaps one should have an extra Tenyo Zig Zag Cig in order to perform the grease version of that effect.

I understand that in Israel Tenyo makes versions for kosher and non-kosher foods.

Indeed they do! The kosher version is called Tenyo Zig Zag Pareve.

I know that smoking is very common in Asian countries. But has there been any indication of sensitivity to the issue or plan to rerelease it without the cigarette element. The video wonderfully demonstrates an alternative. Did this ever come up in discussion for the Tenyo book. Were there really no second thoughts about using a cigarette?

Re: Zig Zag with a French Fry at McD's
Tenyo did release an alternate version eventually. It used a little statue instead of a cigarette. They provided a tiny sword to use (like the ketchup) in the routine. I am pretty sure that it was sold in Japan only.
Magic Works released it that way as well.
Actually, the original Zig Zag Cig prop will work with anything which will fit and can be cut into thirds such as crayons.
The Tenyo Elite version included a metal bar. It makes noise so I don't think that was a great idea.

The Disney versions sold in Tokyo Disneyland all use pencils.

Those little pencils thay have at Miniature Golf Courses are suitable to use with it. Better yet, buy a couple of those fancy colorful pencils and cut them down. Nowadays, they have many designs that are very attractive. Kids love them!
