This is a trick I'd really like to have one day. I like the idea a lot and i'm sure I'll have pleasure to perform it. But it is not so easy to find, at the right time.

I got lucky and was able to buy one in a direct sale rather than an auction. Every time I bid on one, someone always outbid me.

I will also be receiving the Japanese version too. They're different. :)

Tenyo’s Rabbit Explosion represents the ultimate version of the multiplying sponge rabbits effect. Imagine performing your usual sponge rabbits routine, and as a finale, slowly open your hand and FORTY rabbits explode all over the place!

Are unauthorized versions of Tenyo effects a common problem? A trick called Burglar Ball is available on Ebay. Illustration indicates it's the same trick but packaging is much different.

There are hundreds of unauthorized reproductions of Tenyo products. This "Burglar Ball" is not a counterfeit because it doesn't pretend to be Tenyo.

However, there are many actual counterfeits that look almost identical to Tenyo's pieces, except they don't work as well. See here:
http://www.tenyo.be/index.html
(you'll have to scroll down almost three quarters of the way but then you'll see an article on counterfeit Tenyo pieces.

The counterfeits are made in both China and Japan, but since they don't have the expertise of Tenyo in engineering and manufacturing, the bogus tricks frequently don't work. I just had this happen to me with a copy of "Confined Cubes."

Is this effect in the public domain? I assumed any copy would have to be licensed from Tenyo for reproduction but I didn't think the company did that.

Most magic tricks are not protected by law.

I've added the link!

When I saw this title I thought it had something to do with Monte Python. :–)

How do you know if Tenyo even originated the trick? For instance I always wondered if Cubio was their invention or did it come from somewhere else before.

If it's in the public domain, then anyone can produce it.

But - If Tenyo invested time and money developing, designing and producing any trick, I would want to know that I was rewarding them by buying a legitimate copy. It's a travesty that an individual can purchase any Tenyo trick, learn its secret, then make copies and sell them for a profit without any credit or payment to Tenyo.

For the same reason I don't illegally download music from file sharing Web sites. I know the creator of that music is being ripped off. There should be some way for magic to be protected.
