When I first saw What's the Catch? in Apocalypse, way back in 1991, I negligently skipped to the next trick. However, when I eventually saw the Harry Lorayne demonstration on the Gene Maze videotape I realised that this was a classic.
I just had to have it.
Fortunately, my partner Niekie generously came up with the goods for my birthday all those years ago. She bought a block of wood and drilled the three holes with an old-fashioned hand drill. The alignment was good. She found that inexpensive dowelling was perfect for the three rods.
I then bought a length of gold toilet chain from a hardware shop. Nice ironic touch to complete the set-up!
The block and chain has travelled with me from the Blue Mountains near Sydney to my olde town of Stamford in Lincolnshire.
I even dug it out for the Cambridge Pentacle Club one evening.
Alas, very few traces of my relationship to Niekie remain, apart from this mysterious block of wood on my mantelpiece.
