Magnetic Shim Cards

Postby Bob Farmer » July 29th, 2013, 10:07 am

I have two questions:

1. Does anyone have a source for thin Bicycle shim cards? Some I've seen are too thick and cannot be handled by a spectator.

2. Has anyone thought of printing, say, a 10 of Spades on a blank-faced Bicycle card but using magnetic ink? This ink is used to print checks. I have no idea if the ink would be strong enough to be attracted by a magnetic. There is also magnetic paint (from Home Depot).

Any info would be appreciated.

This doesn't' answer your question, but the ink in a U.S. dollar bill is slightly magnetic. You can crease a note longways, and balance it on a piece of wire pointed upwards, and a magnet will pull it around like a compass needle.

Have you seen any of these cards, Bob?

The SHIMpossible Deck:

They may be too thick. It says that the 52 cards come in TWO boxes. I doubt if they FILL two boxes but they're obviously thicker than a normal card.
