Giobbi's Essay on the Daley Notebooks
I really enjoyed Giobbi's column this month on the Jacob Daley notebooks. His essay is a lesson in reading and interpreting the information we find in them. I know that Bruce Cervon annotated his copy of the Daley Notebooks. I would love to see that published.

The Daley Notebooks aren't easy to decipher. Much of it is written in a kind of shorthand that can make it difficult to figure out the directions. That's part of the charm of it I suppose.

Re: Giobbi's Essay on the Daley Notebooks
I'm wondering about the date of when Fulves issued the Daley Notebooks.
The usually reliable Giobbi gives 1971.
The usually reliable Conjuring Archive gives 1972.
The usually reliable Magicpedia gives 1974.
I see the December 1971 Pallbearers Review says that the Notebooks are ready.
Does someone have a copy of the hardback first edition? Can you tell me what date it gives? Thanks!

I believe 1972 is correct.

The Dalye notebook is not dated as such, but Frank Csuri, who transcribed it, says in his introduction: "...Mrs Elliie Romas was kind enough to retype the notes and complete the project in June 1971."

Re: Giobbi's Essay on the Daley Notebooks
The retyping might well have been finished in 1971. As far as I could find out, the year the Notebooks where actually printed and available, was 1972. Unfortunately, a proper publishing date doesn't seem to be in them.
While they were announced in late 1971 in Pallbearers Review, in early 1972 Fulves writes in Epilogue, p. 118: "Apologies are in order to all who ordered the Notebooks. Delays every step of the way pushed the final release date from December to April."
So that's what I used in the full Conjuring Archive listing.

Re: Giobbi's Essay on the Daley Notebooks
There doesn't seem to be any reference to the release of the notebooks in Genii, Linking Ring, or MUM when they came out. Surprising.

Not surprising: niche interest, and Fulves never advertised.

Can someone post the month and year of the Genii that Giobbi’s column on the Jacob Daley notebooks appeared. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The June 2013 issue, page 16 ("The Genii Session"). Alexandra and Dominique Duvivier on the cover.

Thanks Dustin, I just order a used copy from eBay. I have a hard bound copy of Jacob Daley's Notebooks that’s been setting on my shelf for a some time. I am hoping that this column will help me get more out of it then I have. Take Care

Re: Giobbi's Essay on the Daley Notebooks
Peter Duffie used to have some kind of index or something to the Daley Notebooks that were on his old website.
I cannot find them online any more though. And I tried the Internet Archive site as well.

Thanks Joe, I couldn’t find Peter Duffle’s index either. I found his tweeter page; however, I am not into that…

I have an index of Daley's Notebook but I don't remember if I copy Duffie's index or I do it myself.
If someone want to have it, give me a message with your email so I can spend it .

Re: Giobbi's Essay on the Daley Notebooks
Peter's work was indispensable in deciphering the notebooks. Worth preserving for posterity.
