Lots of good forgotten tricks in the Mar. Genii.
But, brother, is Ross Bertram's trick hard as hell. Would love to see someone doing this well if anyone has mastered it.

Did you watch the video of David Ben doing it in the digital issue? He hadn't done it in 35 years, but does a pretty good job.

No! I will check it out.
The routine seems like a predecessor to Carney's Coins in the Mist. Hard to say which of those two routines is easier.

Carney does his beautifully--I always assumed it was, or was based on, the Ross Bertram Squeeze Away Coin.

Chris Kenner studied a lot of Bertram routines and methods. I'm sure he can pull that routine off smoothly. He has a knack for making difficult moves like the Bertram switch look easier.

Years ago an agent in Toronto told me she used to get Ross Bertram work. She flabbergasted me by telling me he did the substitution trunk!
Somehow I couldn't imagine a great coin magician from the Stars of Magic doing the trunk trick! I was in his presence once (actually I should say he was in MY presence!) but I never did speak to him. I did speak to his wife once though some time after he died. I bumped into her when I was selling svengali decks somewhere. She told me she was trying got some newspaper article or other done about her late husband.

Great to see these and to learn about the background to the Stars of Magic series. The tricks looked strangely familiar though, and after a bit of searching I found out why - all of them (plus a few more) appear in the book "Close Up Magic of the Masters" published by Jackie Flosso.

Finally saw David Ben perform this in the online issue. Amazingly executed. Do you give lessons Mr. Ben? :D

It helped to see it done, I started practicing and am making a little progress now. It's tough but fun to work on.
