No one seems to have mentioned Luis Otero's clever card to case in the January issue. I thought it was sweet. but isn't there a related version somewhere using the Kelly/Ovette move?

I have a version somewhere in my library where the card is loaded from the bottom of the deck, in Kelly/Ovette fashion, but with the cardcase on the table. I only have time to check one book; let's see if I can find it.

Well, I thought it was in Best of Spades by Bob Bengel, but now I can't find that in my library, so I can't confirm or deny. I do remember one pointthe case was at the edge of the table so your leg could brace it for the insertion.

A quick check online shows a trick called "Caseload" in Best of Spades. It apparently appeared in the Magic Menu on page 668. That must be what I was thinking of.

Although - I'd thought I'd seen an (easier) approach - where the card is outside the box, as Otero's approach.
Maybe I'm misremembering.

The idea of loading via an Ovette or Kelly is not new. The card is usually loosened and then slide beneath the case (or directly into the case) as it's picked up or moved. I thought Otero's method was interesting because of the way the card was moved under the case, which is different.

Bernard Bilis had a nice Cards to Box where he loaded four cards into a closed box sitting on the table.

In The Commercial Magic of Roger Crosthwaite, he uses the Kelly/Ovette move to put a card into a rear palm in his right hand. The card is then slid into the case as his right hand approaches to open the case, which his left hand holds. The case can then be opened cleanly.

Jim Krenz once showed me a great method using Juan Tamariz' Perpendicular Control. The card is loaded from under the spread as the cards are spread from hand to hand.
