LAURA LONDON BRINGS HER ONE WOMAN SHOW TO SOUTH SHIELDS FESTIVAL

MAGIC FANS can see one of the world’s only female sleight of hand artists and card cheats at a popular South Shields festival next month.

Laura London, a member of the Magic Circle with Gold Star, will perform at the second gala show at the Customs House on 12 October, as part of the South Tyneside International Magic Festival.

The magician will showcase extracts from her acclaimed one woman show, CHEAT, where she tells the story of 1920s gambler and card cheat, Geraldine Hartmann.

And along with joining the line-up at the gala show, Laura will also host a lecture for those attending the festival’s three-day convention.

Laura’s interest in magic began when she was just eight years old after seeing the reactions of other children when a magician performed at a birthday party.

After leaving school, she started her first residency at The Restaurant Marco Pierre White, at Knightsbridge, going on to appear at venues around the world including London’s Wellcome Collection, Hollywood’s famous The Magic Castle and performing for Prince Charles at Windsor Castle.

“Magic is a gift we can share with other people,” said Laura. “I don’t care if it’s an audience of one, two, or 100 people; I just love doing what I do.”

“Conventions are hugely important in this industry, not just for magicians who are just starting out, but also for people who have been in the industry for many years.

“It can be a lonely job to travel and perform and festivals like this one are a great place to learn new things and also meet likeminded people.”

Magician Steve Gore, who organises the event with South Tyneside Council, is delighted to bring Laura’s talent to a South Shields audience.

“Laura is not only incredibly good at what she does technically, but she also has fantastic stage presence and delivery,” said Steve.

“Her act is one that an audience can really get lost in and Laura’s one-woman show has received rave reviews, so we are very excited that she is bringing it to the event.”

Joining Laura on the bill at the second gala show are magicians, Xulio Merino, Adam Black, Richard Jones, Matricks and compere, Steve Hewlett.

Tickets for the gala shows start at £13 and can be purchased from www.customshouse.co.uk or by calling 0191 454 1234.

The South Tyneside International Magic Festival is organised by South Tyneside Council and magician Steve Gore, supported by BBC Newcastle and sponsored by The Customs House and Magicbox.

Tickets for the popular three-day convention are also available for budding magicians, priced at £65.

This includes entry to dealers, close up sessions, the two gala shows and the exclusive Late Night Show on Friday evening, featuring comedian Finbar Healy.

Laura London is a very talented magician, a wonderful sleight of hand artist, and a brilliant entertainer. I highly recommend her show!
