Hi everyone,
In his book Scams & Fantasies with cards, Darwin Ortiz wrote about Gaining Respect for Magic. He says that " the real reason some people resent magicians is because they don't realize that the magician is doing something they can't."
But don't you think that the true reason some people resent magicians is simply because they don't understand what the magician is doing to accomplish his miracles. Even if they suspect that you are doing something they can't, some will still resent you because they don't understand what you are doing to accomplish your miracles.
What do you think about it?

I don't remember where I read or heard this, but I think it came from Vernon: They would like to think that they have been fooled by a gentleman.
If they like you as a person, they will like whatever it is you will show them, because they like and respect you first, tricks are always secondary.

I believe that quote is Nate Leipzig's.
"Dai, I've been doing magic for almost fifty years. They (an audience) like to feel that a gentleman has fooled them."
from Dai Vernon's Tribute to Nate Leipzig by Lewis Ganson, pg 12.
