Just received:

"Dirty Work is typical Ryan Matney material: simple, direct and STRONG! I am already adding some of these to my repertoire (and YOU should, too)! “Already Gone”, “Gimme Back My Bullet”, and “Mechanized Chance” are crazy fun to do (and “Jervis’s Game” is a reputation maker). Kudos to Ryan for sharing these monsters." - Geoff Williams

"There’s some really wonderful thinking in here, I’ll totally be using a few tricks." - James Went

Japan's foremost translator of magic books, Yukishige Kadoya, posted a review of Dirty Work on his Facebook page. I asked his permission to share it below:

Magicians: I rarely post about magic here, so this entry serves as an exception to that rule.

DISCLOSURE: I have personally known the author, and he is one of my good friends. However, the following review is completely unbiased.

“To survive it is often necessary to fight and to fight you have to dirty yourself.”
--George Orwell

My good friend, clever magic creator and one of the reviewers on Genii magazine, Ryan Matney just released his latest booklet “Dirty Work”. Ryan-san takes good, interesting plots in card magic and carefully improves and streamlines them with clever subtleties and lesser-known simple and strong sleights. So his tricks do not lose clarity of effect from the original plot.

Every single trick he has released or picked is well-constructed, really simple to perform, crystal clear and direct. His presentation for tricks is really commercial and fun, too.

Among the rest of his works like his big book “Spoiler Alert” (Kaufman and Company, 2017) or his magazine “The End Times”, this latest work keeps his traditional way of creating magic.

He explains the new 10 works in this 100+ pages booklet. His writing style is always concise and conversational, so everyone can learn all of his magic with the help of many photos.

I tried all of the tricks during this new year break, I really enjoyed them! My favorites are “Already Gone” (good signed card transposition for lovers or friends), “Gimme Back My Bullet” (Well-constructed card transposition), “California Dreamin’”(Devilishly clever variation of Larry Jennings’ "The Pacoima Solution"), “To Your Corners” (Low-fat - High impact packet version of “Out of This World"), “Jervis’s Game” (Cool prediction effect where the spectator secretly does the dirty work) and “MacGuffin” (Self-working and impromptu version of “The Mystery Card” plot. Oh, my, what a clever guy he is! Don’t miss the prepared version, too.)

All effects are wonderful and well-thought-out. Even if you decide to not perform them, you can get so much food for thought from his works. Price tag $35 is a bargain price. I believe this book will be your good start to practice some good card tricks for 2020.

Highly recommended.

"If you want to learn some seriously entertaining card magic that you will actually use (as opposed to just nodding your head and turning the page) then I highly recommend you get in on the Dirty Work."- Mark Elsdon

"Fellow Magicians, if you like super clever commercial magic, be sure to check out Ryan Matney's new book, "Dirty Work." It's chock full of terrific card magic with wonderfully novel plots that rely on subtlety more than sleights. And the sleights that are implemented are not only not knuckle-busting, but are also very well explained. One of the effects, "California Dreamin'" is going right into my working set (It's a cool riff on Larry Jennings' “The Pacoima Solution”)." - Cameron Francis

Everybody that preordered has their books, Murphy's has it and it is now available everywhere. This is one of the fastest selling books I've done and best reviewed books I've done. Truly grateful for the response. Thanks everyone that has ordered.

This looks good Ryan. Are you planning on bringing any of this material to a DVD?
