" Chinese magician Fu Yandong has stirred up some controversy in his home country after performing a magic trick with live goldfish during a CCTV gala to ring in the new year.

The goldfish a symbol of wealth in Chinese culture appeared to be swimming in unison under Fus direction. Animal rights groups have called for the banning of magic tricks involving goldfish, alleging that magnets were used to control the fish with electric currents.

Fu and his agent both deny that any form of abuse is taking place, with Fu taking to Twitter to report that the fish are living happily. If I used magnets, the fish would stick together, Fu told CCTV."
