Four-Way Coincidence by John Murray
In 1975, John Murray published in cavalcade 3 a trick called Four-Way Coincidence. The trick was later republished by garcia in The Close-up Magic of Frank Garcia. The trick consisted in making a prediction, then by "concidence", finding the other three mates of the prediction. In Murray's method, he stocked the deck beginning from the face of the deck. A friend of mine showed me a way to stock the deck beginning from the back of the deck. Any idea who evolved this last method?

A similar effect is Yves Doumergue's "Ten for Ten," which is demo'd in the "Talk about Tricks" DVD. It combines the prediction aspect with a kind of "Stop" trick handling to come up with the three mates.

The two versions you mention are slightly different. The version in the Garcia book works from the face of the deck, reversing the order of the cards as you go through. The version in card Cavalcade works from the back of the deck.

Hi El Mystico,
Yes, you are right.
When I wrote my question, I had only read Garcia's version and thought it was the same as Murray's version. Then I received Cavalcade 3 and discovered that the version I was looking for was indeed Murray's version which I personally find much superior to Garcia's version.
Thank you for your answer anyway.

This is a great trick. I used it for many years.
Re: Four-Way Coincidence by John Murray
I saw Johnny Murray lecture in the mid-seventies and 4 way Coincidence was one of the tricks we were all doing for a long time after that. Here it is almost 35 years later and I still use this and two other items from his lecture.

His book is very good: INSIDE JOHN MURRAY by John Murray, published in 1984. Bill Wells did the illustrations.

I am curious what are the other two items that you use? John was the first real close up magician I had seen when I was a young teenager. I am curious if the other two items you mention are in his book.
