Little Bunny Reference

A place where beginners can participate, ask questions, and post their views. However, beginners typically ask a lot of questions about sources, tricks, books, and so on. In fact, all magicians are interested (or should be) in the provenance of tricks, ideas, and related matters. This department will service these needs.

Little Bunny Reference

Postby oliver m » May 29th, 2008, 12:27 pm

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me track down an elusive reference.

I don't know the name of the trick I'm looking for which is hindering me!

It's the one where a spectator turns cards face up and face down and then you reveal that you have correctly predicted:

a) the number of face up cards
b) of those, the number of black cards
c) of those, the number of (say) clubs
d) the name of the only card which isn't a club.

I think it was used in Little Bunny's Card Trick but I believe it was published before that.

If anyone could tell me any info (ideally I'd like to reference the book title, author, publisher, year and page number) I'd be hugely grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Oliver

It's "Shuffle-bored" by Simon Aronson. Published in several places, most recent version is in MAGIC, Aug. 2003.

Aronson published "Shuffle-bored" as a book in 1980, which he has since republished , combined with two other books, as Bound To Please.

Incidentally, it makes a great standup trick!

This is also similar to John Bannon's "Wait Until Dark" on his "Impossibilia" DVD
Pick a card....Any card....NO not THAT card..THIS one!

Some other effects in this genre:

Manto, Roberto Giobbi, "Card College Light"
Wait Until Dark, John Bannon, "Dear Mr. Fantasy" (it doesn't appear to be listed in the contents for the Impossibilia DVD)
Rain Man, Lennart Green, "Green Lite" (DVD)
Control in Chaos, Ramon Rioboo/Juan Tamariz, "Mnemonica"
Jeopardy, Paul Green, "In the Trenches" (DVD)

And, of course, "Shuffleboard", as referenced by the earlier posters.

They all owe a debt to Bob Hummer's "Face-up Prediction", which appeared in his book, "Half a Dozen Hummers" in 1940, and which introduced the self-cancellation principle.

It's listed under the "Special DVD Features" on the "Impossibilia" DVD.

Thanks, Tom. I don't own the DVD, so I was only going by the contents as I found them listed online. Looks like I should have read a bit further -- I see it now on Meir Yedid's site.

I think someone ought to mention that the version in the original post is Bill Goldman's Little Bunny Book, though. Bill routine puts the trick in a whole new place.

Also my Telepa- Three uses this principle with ESP Cards.
