Trade Show Magic Blog

Postby performer » August 17th, 2015, 8:00 pm

For some odd reason that I cannot remember we ended up talking about trade show magic on a thread about Randi and the alleged wickedness of psychics. Incidentally, my last post there is an explanation of how the whole thing works. This was a post that I requested Richard to delete temporarily for a very short time for reasons that need not concern us here. I did tell him that it could be replaced in a few weeks and those few weeks have now transpired. I consider it the REAL reason why psychic ability works and I suggest various agitated sceptics study it thoroughly and hopefully they will learn something.

Anyway to get back on topic, we did end up talking about trade show magic and I attempted to advise on the matter despite a temporary distraction from the inexperienced. I have done several dozen trade shows which may not be a lot compared to some people but I believe I make up for this by drawing crowds and entertaining them at literally thousands of consumer shows, fairs, department stores and other venues selling svengali decks and other items as a magic pitchman.

I have found trade show work to be very similar to being a pitchman and have noticed very little difference and in fact it is MUCH easier.

Nowadays I am doing more trade show work than anything else. Somewhere between 15 to 20 a year. I could do more if I wanted to but I feel it is advisable to pace myself because of age. However, even though I am becoming older and more decrepit by the day I can still outwork people half my age.

Anyway the purpose of this post is to draw attention to my new trade show blog. Right now I am explaining several ways to draw a crowd and I think this might be useful for not only trade show workers, but for anyone such as a busker or svengali pitchman who needs to gather and audience out of nowhere.

I have seen magicians at trade shows almost begging for people to come over and watch and various others standing there hapless wondering how to gather a crowd at venues where there is little traffic.

Wonder no more. I hope this is helfpul:

Oh, and I just posted on the blog a follow up video of the show I posted on here. This time I use the svengali deck and you will see how I incorporate company information in a tongue in cheek way. And all the three women in question did indeed sign up for the contest.
