Promo Video Poster Frame

Postby Jeffrey Korst » May 23rd, 2011, 2:32 pm

YouTube gives a very limited selection of frames from which to choose. Is there a way to manually assign a frame (or even a separate still image?)

All I've found is the hack of inserting a frame at the center of the video. It's so short that viewers don't see it, but one of the YouTube options is the frame that's at the exact center of the timeline.

If not on YouTube, is there another video hosting site that gives you more flexibility in this?

Thanks

Contact Jack Turk. He knows a tremendous amount about this. He is a member of this forum, I believe.

The answer, at least for me, is to use Vimeo instead of YouTube.

There's quite a bit of buzz around Traffic Player at the moment
that makes a screen around your YouTube clips.
It's a plugin for Wordpress and you can make it look like a computer, iPad, Ipod etc. http://tinyurl.com/3qtm8j3

I don't use it myself but I know a few people who do.

Are you looking to add a frame around a video embedded on a page on your site or on your YouTube page?

If you are doing it on your site you can enclose the video in a <div> tag and just set the background of the <div> to be the frame you want. You can also use the border property. Both methods will require some tweaking to get everything lined up correctly. Here is an example: http://www.lotzoo.com/2010/12/tailgating-miami-style/. This was actually done using a table, but I wouldn't recommend that as the div method is actually easier.

There are many other video hosting sites, not many with the traffic YouTube has though. Depends if you hope to be found, or are just sending out a link, I guess.
