No more cash?

Postby P.T.Widdle » August 20th, 2008, 1:12 pm

I bought a small toy for my son the other day that cost one dollar. I didn't have any cash on me, so the clerk offered to take my credit card. He said they they had no minimum. He also told me that most stores these days have no minimum, and that he and most everyone he knew didn't carry cash most of the time anymore.

Is this no minimum thing affecting street performers? When you pass the hat do people have no cash in their pockets?

Imagine the combined Paypal sign and wireless swiper...

I suspect we are a few years away from going cashless - more if the economy does not pick up very soon.

Any store/merchant requiring a minimum purchase for the use of a credit card is in violation of their agreements with Visa/Mastercard/Discover and can be reported to the credit card provider : ... 168646.php

That may be true, but it happens all the time. I just ran across it myself this past week where a purchase of less than $10 required cash and they declined to use my card for it.
