That's good to hear. They really need to get back on track. It's hard to regain your rhythm when there's an interruption.

Just wondering how long this collection of effects is going to take to complete? Over a year now and we only have 6 issues. Mind you Psience is still waiting to be completed. I await the next issue with baited breath :D

What kills me is the fact that we have not received the instructions to the bonus item for those who pre-ordered before a certain date.

The effect sounds incredible and the prop is in my hands. Which prop? Not sure. What is the real performance supposed to look like? Not sure. When will we find out more? Not sure.

It sure will be fun when it arrives.

The unseen effect that we haven't had any instructions from. In the box is a envelope with UN on could this be it (It has a black dot on too)

Just rereading the official blurb that went out. Note the bold

ACT NOW!

When you join you will be sent your complete The Works custom collection delivered via First-Class Mail to anywhere in the world. Every month thereafter you will receive digital instructions for one of the routines, effects or devices in your collection. As you receive instructions for the standup mentalism act, you will also learn the details of how to put the act together, how to make the routines fit your style and persona, updated tips, professional insights and more.

You'll receive at least a year and a half of instructions and routines and perhaps even a little bit more for no additional cost to you. Every month you will learn a piece of strong, practical mentalism you can start performing immediately. In addition you'll receive a “catalog style” description of the effect that will be taught the following month giving you a month of performance and anticipation. At the outset you will receive a box filled with the dozens of special items you will need to perform the routines.

Who knows. I assume that the death of Michael's brother has set back their timeline on many things.

at this point i would prefer them to release all the documentation en masse and let us work through it on our own. the experiment was an interesting one - encouraging magicians to spend time on an idea and then build on it - but with the delays it just doesn't work. (it also assumes magicians work through anything instead of just sating their need for novelty before looking
for the next shiny object.)

i think a nice touch would be to mail everyone a simple spiral bound book with all the monthly instructions included and consider the set 'completed'.

i'm just one voice among many, but i think that is a satisfactory conclusion.

When I spoke with Weber at Genii he said the next issue would be in our mailboxes by the time we got back from the convention. He may still be at Genii.

Brad, I think that's a dandy idea, but I know they've been sending out the instructions as they are being written up. So there is no way to do a book (or at least that isn't a way to solve this problem).

So, the sixth issue of The Journal of Psience magically showed up in my inbox a few minutes ago!

Got home from work and read it, printed it out and experimented with it. I remember someone showing this to me at a convention in Vegas 100 years ago but I forgot about it and what they are doing with it is really different and smart.

Started trying to solve some of the questions in the back of the issue. My kind of puzzle for a guy who hates puzzles because when you figure it out, you have extra effects to perform with the same method.

I'd say this stuff is actually worth the wait, but I hate waiting.

Curiously I'm still waiting on mine. Maybe it will magically appear some other time.

Mac,

Are you talking about Psience or The Works?

I received Vol 1 #6 of Psience yesterday.

I see.

I suppose I got confused when we started talking about Psience in a thread about The Works. Now I must write an apology to The Director...

Agreed.

I'm a huge Weber fan, really love his work and his thinking. What I love the most is seeing the evolution of his ideas.

Issue 8 is an advancement of something he published in his Complete Mental Act, theres a presentational point he published there that he did not put in The Works that I think is a very strong way to finish this routine.

The latest set of instructions and the teaser for the next effect arrived last night.

I really like the idea of a piece of fooling mentalism that I can perform while sitting in my car!

Anyone else going to try this today?

While I think this is a very interesting concept, IMHO there's too much prep. required for just doing this for someone in your car...

I understand your point about a lot of prep.

BUT, I can easily envision using the application in the last paragraph of the explanation for my wife--she'd remember it for a lifetime. Therefore, for me, it would definitely make the preparation worth it!

The site gives you the actual coordinates of the small town where your money is donated (displays the long./lat. on your screen) when you log in and type the embossed code found on the bottom of your reusable water bottle.
