Looking for Copperfield book

Postby devant12 » March 13th, 2022, 5:39 am

Hi. I’m looking for the book history of magic by David Copperfield, David Britland, Richard Wisemm mom an. But it has to be the special one with the extra chapter in it with Orson Welles from Barnes and noble. Thanks

I swear I saw it in Walmart the other day. I remember browsing through it in fact. I don't know if it was the same book but I suspect it must be. It was full of historical stuff.

Yes but there’s a special edition just with Orson Welles in it apparently from Barnes and noble and I live in U.K. and they don’t deliver here for some reason

There are at least five variants of this book available:

1. Standard edition

2. Standard edition with “autographed” bookplate from Talkshoplive.  The consensus seems to be that the “signatures” are from an autopen machine.  I’ve seen (so far) five different templates used, so a comparison of any two copies may look different from each other.

3. Standard edition with signed bookplate from Premier – I haven’t been able to inspect any of these, but I hear that they are obviously hand signed and not autopenned.  That doesn’t necessarily mean that they are genuine – they could be what’s called a “secretarial”.  In a video they hosted,

Copperfield is seen signing bookplates as well as physical books.  I don’t know what you typically get if you ordered from them.

4. Barnes & Noble edition with chapter on Orson Welles

5. Barnes & Noble edition with chapter on Orson Welles and bound-in autograph page.  “Autographs” are autopen, and use the same templates as above.

Yes I know it’s available at Barnes and noble but like I said they don’t ship to U.K.

It looks like Bob Dylan has done the same "hand-signed" autopen trick that Copperfield did.

$600 for an autopenned "autograph" is an anathema.

Some great detective work here: https://live.autographmagazine.com/foru ... 1#comments
