Trying to get hold of Jim is not easy. I sent an email to his shop address about six months ago; still waiting for an answer...

Ian, I apologize. I'm actually pretty easy to reach. I know that you've had some funky e-mails for me, and I'm sorry that they didn't work. We recently cleaned up e-mails on the site. Here's how to reach me: jim@jimsteinmeyer.com

However, we are now dealing with new VAT rules for the UK, which makes sending books prohibitive. A big change at the top of the year, and it's tough for small mail order.

Thanks Jim,

Yes, international sales are now a pain in the bahookie thanks to the recent changes :(

There may be a solution...

We do seem to be in a country that is determined to prevent anyone trading with any other country at the moment....

There are options - if the total TRANSACTIONAL value (the items plus the shipping cost) is less than £135 then it is exempt from VAT (although could still be liable for import duties collected by the Uk delivery company) and so doesn’t need the sender to register / comply.

Also if the shipment is to a business that is VAT registered then again it can be shipped without the sender having to do all the tax paperwork as long as the sender declares the receivers VAT or EROI number on their export declarations. I can see a lot of overseas niche sellers partnering with Uk registered companies to take advantage of their VAT registration.

This process is being phased in across 2021. By the end of the year this will be how all Uk imports (even from EU countries) will operate - thus creating a completely level playing field but one which has, for some inexplicable reason, been built on the top of Everest.
