Houdini poster sets record price at auction

Postby JohnCox » February 4th, 2017, 4:50 pm

An original 1912 poster for Houdini's Water Torture Cell sold for a whopping $114,000 (including 20% buyers premium) at Potter & Potter's The Golden Age of Magic Posters, Part II auction today.

According to those in the know, this is first time any magic poster has broken six figures at auction.

How is a poster that expensive mailed out to the winner? Is it rolled up in a tube and Fed Exed? I suppose the winner can afford to fly out to Chicago to pick it up.

Good question Leonard, how does it get moved? Suppose if you're spending that much, shipping cost is not a concern.

There are fine art moving services that deal with high-value and hard to move paintings, sculptures, and so on. The poster is huge, and framed, so it seems like a logical guess.
