Derren Brown's "The Devil's Picturebook" remastered

Postby erdnasephile » January 9th, 2016, 12:46 am

Just heard about this:

https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/magic ... cturebook/

$50 is a real bargain compared to what I paid for the DVD's a few years ago. One note is that Vanishing, Inc apparently changed the aspect ratio of the original footage to 16:9.

All the did was zoom the 4:3 to 16:9 too, not even pan and scan.

Really lazy of them, imho.

Unless that is what "remastered" means nowadays?
Yes, it is mrgoat, I just can't log in with old account.

Ah yes, "Remastered." Along with "Rebooted," "Reimagined," "Rejigged" and several other "Rewordings," the meaning is adopted and adapted to accommodate the circumstances, or even scenario.

Or that's how it seems to me, but what do I know. If it hasn't got an on/off switch and a plug, I'm mystified.

I've always understood "remastered" to mean that the video and/or sound has been enhanced or improved on a project.

It sounds like this is not the case in this release--I've not seen it since I already own the originals.

HD resolution has been around for years now, but all of the magic DVD releases I've seen have been in standard def, as have been all of the streaming programs I've purchased so far.

I'm sure that many of today's contemporary products are being filmed in HD, if not 4K (or beyond). Does anyone know if people are releasing magic instructional products in HD or better?

There are very few magic items I selfishly wish were never sold again. This is one of them.

This is an interview with Derren Brown's manager. He mentions me in the first ten minutes as so he naturally should.
