authenticating personal item? Dell O'Dell Charm Bracelet Will accept offers

Postby gmkresale » November 25th, 2011, 10:31 pm

I have a sterling silver charm bracelet that belonged to Dell O'Dell. I bought it from the estate of a woman who was married to Charles Carrar after Dell's death.

I tried "connecting the dots" through marriage and death certificates, but I cannot contact the executors of the estate to obtain a receipt for purchase which would provide the provenance of the piece.

One of the charms says "The Magicals" 1939. I was hoping that someone may be able to point me in the right direction if that charm is connected with a performance of some sort. Any photos of her in the bracelet, etc?

Any ideas ... I would love to sell the piece to a true fan, not just someone who will melt it down for scrap value. I have no idea what it would be worth, since I cannot provide authentication.

My mistake, the charm actually reads "Magicals" at the top, and "1939" at the bottom. There are numerous magic related charms like rabbit, top hat, deck of cards, guillotine, etc. 9 charms in all which all appear to be made of sterling, although only a couple are actually stamped. Will entertain all offers. Thanks again!!

You sure it is not "Magigals"? See their emblem on: http://geniimagazine.com/magicpedia/Magigals

I can send an email to someone who might be able to help you, but I would need your contact information and then it would be up to them whether or not they contact you.

I agree with the previous post. It probably is inscribed "magigals", which was a club for female magicians - no boys allowed. How is that for discrimination! Dell was a member of the Magigals club.

How is that discrimination? Dell was one of the most prominent female magicians ever, of course she would be a member.

Lloyd E. Jones was a male member of the Magigals. Honorary, I believe.
Stay tooned.

I would be interested in seeing what the bracelet looks like. Please e-mail me at JLsobanski@aol.com
Dell O'Dell is one of my favorite magicians! I have a fairly large collection of her ephemera. I've also researched the Magigals. Let's solve the mystery!

Do you still have the charm bracelet? I would be interested in it. I live in Quenemo, KS. Dell's father wintered his circus here and she performed here as well. I would love to add something of hers to my Quenemo Collection. Thanks, Mike.
