Tony Curtis Auction

Postby Bill Mullins » August 9th, 2011, 12:07 pm

Items from Tony Curtis's estate are being offered by Julien's Auctions in a few weeks.

A few lots have a magic connection:

71 Includes 1959 photo of Curtis doing card trick for his family (est $200 300)
253 Includes a Houdini ex-libris bookplate ($200 400)
402 Art print by Curtis. Giclee on canvas entitled "Houdini" ($800 1200)
403 Signed Houdini calling card ($600 800)
458 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award to Curtis from the Magic Castle ($200 400)
460 1947 edition of Greater Magic, signed to "Tony and Janet" from "George and Janet Boston", and Max Stein 1941 pulp book ($150 250)

Lots of other interesting items too, including the jacket worn by Curtis in "Some Like it Hot" while he was playing the Cary Grant yacht owner (#427).

Kevin -- what do you think of estimates of the Houdini lots?

High? Low? About right?

I think they are very fair. Figuring they will open, if they're aren't any bids, at half of the low estimate. I think the sale will do well overall.
