ALL VERNON TOUCH BOOKS SHIPPED

Postby Richard Kaufman » July 10th, 2006, 2:12 pm

All pre-ordered copies of The Vernon Touch have been shipped.
We generally use media mail for shipping since we pay the postage, but because of the delay we spent the extra money (a LOT of money) to have them all shipped by UPS.
I'd appreciate hearing from you in this thread when you receive the books, and also let me know what you think of the final product.
I hope it was worth your wait.

Can't wait Richard. It was the reason I picked up so many old Genii mags. And with a great designer like Michael , it should be amazing!.

Richard, Michelle just brought the book down to "The Batcave." To say it is impressive would be an understatement. I read the Publisher's Note, Mr. Carney's Introduction, and the first article, and I knew this was going to be a book that will grow in value with each reading, and I know I will be reading it more than once.

You stated you hoped it was worth the wait. My opinion is a resounding, "Yes!" Everything from the outstanding dust jacket to the quality of the paper, from the photographs to the samples of The Professor's handwriting, are an appropriate homage to The Vernon Legacy.

Thank you, and everyone involved in this project, so much for all of the hard work that went into this book, and I encourage every one to read the Publishers Note, and find out who those people are.

Be Well! ~ DV

I received my copy today. I intended on it being my vacation read in a couple of weeks but I know I can't wait that long. The cover is eye catching, photographs clear and plentiful, binding tight and when you lift it you know you have a real book in your hands. I may read it quickly but I think I may be studying it for years.

Arrived today in Tucson, AZ. Can't put it down. For me, this is the most interesting magic publication I have ever seen. I never thought I would live to see all of the Professor's columns in a book. What a treasure! Words cannot express how much I am enjoying this beautiful book. Thanks to everyone who participated in making this happen!

Nothing yet in Frankfort, KY.

Richard, you might want to find out why you paid for UPS delivery when it is taking as long as USPS Media mail.

I returned home from the SAM convention by lunch and found the book waiting for me. I had already seen copies in Louisville and knew the copious photos and gorgeous layout were worth the price alone, but I spent the afternoon reading it and was reminded, finally, as to what a rich, rich history this book is, in the words of the man who was at the top of our game. This is a fantastic resource, amazingly packaged.

Richard

Do you have any idea on a projected arrival time for the book in the UK?

To the UK by airmail or surface?
Airmail copies should be received sometime this week since they're sent by DHL.
Surface mail copies could take another two months because they go by boat.

This line from The Vernon Touch has bothered me for decades. In October, 1971, discussing the relative dough to be made from stage magic vs. close-up magic, Vernon writes,

"The only way to make a substantial amount of money is to do stage performances. Albert Goshman, who does a superlative job with close-up magic, is working on a stage act right now because he sees the limitations of close-up magic."

To my knowledge, Albert never succeeded. But, did any of you old-time Castle members ever discuss what he was working on, or see him attempt a stand-up act? I'd love to know what he had in mind.

Hi Dave,

Got mine last Friday by DHL. So...watch out for a red/yellow van arriving, like mine did, at 6am. Just the thing you want after you get back from a gig at 3am!!!

I received my copy in Seattle last Friday. Beautiful layout with some well reproduced photos. I've only read a few pages and the typography is small but easy on the eyes.

The type is standard size. Making it any bigger would've meant another 100 pages and a $100 book instead of a $69 book.

I called the Genii office yesterday (Wednesday) and was told the last shipment was Tuesday the 18th. There was a huge volume of orders and it took several days to get them out.

It should be delivered by Friday.

Just finishing up David Ben's book and will move to Richard's. What timing!

Arrived in Norfolk, Va yesterday. Was up half the night going thru it. What a treasure trove of thinking and information. And a perfectly beautiful book to boot. Instant classic. The most important part of the book is the invaluable index. Thank you.

My copy came today. It's more than I hoped for. I've been reading all afternoon and evening. I have to leave the house tomorrow before sun up, it's way past time to go to bed. I'm still reading!

Dang you and THANK YOU Richard Kaufman, it's a great book.

My copy arrived yesterday here in Santa Clara, CA & it is more than incredible). Great work Richard. BTW, the copy of Lifesavers arrived safe & sound late last week and it was everything I'd hoped it would be.

Thanx,

Thanks everyone, for the kind words.
I assumed that all books had been shipped out last Wednesday or Thursday, so it was news to me that previously-ordered copies were still going out this past Tuesday.
However, I can now confidently say that all copies ordered in advance have been shipped and we generally are able to ship copies the same day they're ordered, or the next day.

Well...one of those shipped out last Tuesday made its way to me in Florida.
A beautiful book....I just browsed it last night and will start the actual reading today.

Maybe it's just me, but I saw a mischevious look in Vernon's eyes on the cover. Great photo....

Adrian, Vernon's eyes are rarely seen super-clearly in the photos of him late in life because of his glasses. I purposefully picked the cover photo because that gleam in his eye perfectly conveys his charm.
