Yes, Genii purchased The Conjurors' Magazine after what I think was a 7 year run. That's when "Genii" became "Genii, The Conjurors' Magazine."
Can't help with your other question.

Richard:

Robylill's inquiry leads to a suggestion: a short history of Genii posted on the website. Any thoughts?

While I'm always happy to help, I believe Max has already done most of the work. I'd think his narrative from the 60th Anniversary issue (Vol. 59, Number 11, September 1996) covers the pre-RK bases.

I found the origins of "The Tops -
An Independent Magazine of Magic" in a thesis titled "The Magic Capital of the World" by Patrick West (Central Michigan University, 1976). The thesis is at http://members.tripod.com/~tfred/sjblack.html and the mention to Tops is on the second page at http://members.tripod.com/~tfred/sjblack2.html
The Abbott Magic Novelty Company is a major focus of this paper.
I also found a 4/1/1937 issue for sale at http://www.the-forum.com/books/hypno.htm
Hope this helps.
