Hi,
I'm researching Dr. I.R Calkins who was president of the Society of the American Magicians (1936-1937). He's the namesake of Assembly #17. He's an interesting character. He was a surgeon and a marksman who competed internationally and earned a gold medal in the 1908 Olympics with the pistol team.
Research his career as an amateur magician has been difficult. He certainly performed, but I've only found a reference to a trick he performed: "flowers and flags." He performed it in May, 1936 at the 8th Annual S.A.M. Conference in Springfield, MA.
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what exactly he might have performed.
Thanks,
Mark

You would find your work much easier if you joined The Conjuring Arts Research Library so you could do a search through The Sphinx and Genii very easily.

I suspect it may have been a variation on the flag tiers.
You should be able in conjuring arts to find assembly reports that might talk about his performances or in some of the early Sphinx magazines, they talked about the various performers and their effect.

I've looked it up but would appreciate a link to the The Conjuring Arts Research Library which shows costs and what is available to research.
This makes it sound like membership is highly exclusive and restricted:
