William Lindsay Gresham-The Dixie Hotel

Postby Diego » January 30th, 2022, 2:43 am

While it is known that Gresham committed suicide while staying in a room at The Dixie Hotel, (now Carter Hotel) in NYC. (1962) There is prelude to this I'm seeking sources/references to:

For many years, the restaurant/bar in The Dixie Hotel, had a table designated for magicians. Local and visiting magicians would regularly gather there to dine and talk.

One story is that day, Gresham first sat down for lunch with the others at the magic table, and eventually excused himself, saying goodbye. Leaving the restaurant he went directly to the front desk and checked himself into a room, apparently with none of the other magicians knowing this.
His dead body was later found by hotel staff in his room. It was later determined he had taken an overdose of barbiturates.

Can anyone supply a source/reference to Gresham stopping by The Magician's Table before he checked into a room that day? And if so, who was at The Magic Table that day?

Any leads/help would be appreciated.
