iGenii not showing all issues

Postby Richard Green » June 23rd, 2014, 11:59 am

Is this just a temporary thing as they are getting loaded in? There is a huge gap between May 1951 and April 2013.

It's taking us a while to scan all 60,000 pages and then the company we're using has to process them and upload all those pages into the system. It's expensive and time consuming. But look for more issues to be added over the coming months until we get EVERYTHING up!

I hadn't realized you were doing that, and as is usually the case, found my answer after posting.

The Genii says, "No problem" and is happy to answer questions whenever asked.

Does the old app still work? I have a number of issues downloaded and can still read them offline till all of the new ones are up, but the app is stuck on "Maximizing Space" at 72%.

I was hoping I could use them in parallel (different devices) until all of the new issues are up.

?

Thanks!

Also, will the multimedia content from the issues from the time of the first app in Jan 2011 thru now be available with the new app?

Thanks again!

1. Please delete the old app IMMEDIATELY.

2. It will take me a while to get all the AV from January 2011 onward loaded, but within a month or two ALL of it will be there. First, we have to get the issues up! 2011 and 2012 aren't up yet.

if you turn off the internet (drop into airplane mode) you will not get hung up at 72%. But as Richard has suggested, delete the app and download the issues in the new version. it works just as well with only a few missing features.

I'm a little disappointed about not having actual access to 'all back issues'.

The main reason of rejoining was to get a peek at Oct 2006 issue, I'm doing research for a client with a short deadline and a particular effect has been discussed in that issue I'd very much like to see. A post in The Magic Café pointed me in this direction so I've joined immediately and found it's not yet been uploaded.

To be more specific I'm wanting to look at the section on the Orange slow-mo effect used in 'The Illusionist' Movie. if anyone can help with this it would be much appreciated.

I appreciate the site is still building up and these things take time and money just feeling a little disappointed, any help with this would be amazing. I shall carry on searching for other references to this effect.

Many thanks,

Matthew

No English-language publication in magic has ever had as many issues as Genii--77 years worth. It's taking a while to get them all properly scanned and put up.

While I'm very pleased you subscribed, and think you will get a lot of our your subscription, if you had called our office and asked to purchase just one issue, we could have sold it to you. And we still can: call 301-652-5800 and Margret will sell you the issue you want for $6 postpaid.

Instead of complaining about the progress of a massive undertaking, you could have simply posted a query on the effect. In that case, someone may have pointed you to the director's commentary on the DVD where Neil Burger tips his mitt.

I didn't want to come across as a scrooge, I was just a little disappointed thats all.
Thank you for your swift replies, both much appreciated.

I'm certain I will still find a lot value in the issues of course Richard, I'm based In the UK so its wouldn't have been a cheap call.

I will start by fishing out the dvd and checking on there, thank you for that!

Best,

Matthew

Hi Richard,

what is the progress in uploading all back issues? Can you already estimate a new timeframe for it being done? I for myself am particularly interested in the issues between 1990-2005....

Thanks for you status update and best regards from Vienna!

Robert

We are continuing to upload additional volumes on an almost bi-weekly basis. We're alternating between the older and the newer. In other words, we're working in both directions and will meet in the middle.

I've been told that work on this will speed up and should be done in a few months.

All my previous downloaded iGenii's are not showing.
So what's the answer?

Hello Richard,
I hope I'm putting this in the right place. I'm almost sure that you did a cover spread on Homer Liwag in a previous issue of Genii magazine. As a digital only subscriber, I did not see the issue and was wondering if this issue will be available digitally soon? Many thanks.
