iGenii...Finally!

Postby Ray Eden » August 30th, 2012, 9:20 am

On August 27th I got an iPad. On August 28th I signed up for iGenii. On August 29th I got access to the online magazine. One word: Wow! I'm loving the online version with the video and audio extras.

I still haven't figured out the Ask Alexander.

Using your iPad, open Safari (your browser) and go to www.geniimagazine.com.

On the right you'll see "Log in to iGenii. Click on that.

Enter your User Name and Password. Click Submit.

You'll come to the Ask Alexander screen.

Go to "Browse" at the top and click on it. The click on "Genii."

Simple.

Thanks, Richard. I'll give it go today. I'm guessing that's where all the old issues of Genii are archived?

You should not have any problem. It's double the normal size, so it will take longer. Make sure that your're in a place with a strong wifi signal, and that your iPad doesn't go to sleep during the download.

I can't for the life of me understand why they can't make an app that will not go to sleep in the middle of a download. How hard is that?

Thanks, Pete. Maybe you'll get a job with the company and explain to them how to do it.

I guess the solution is to start it downloading and then play Words with Friends until it's completed.

Questions guys??? I have the app on my ipad, but today my ipad is not available and I want to check something out. I am logging into ask alexander but I am unable to find this years issues exept the last Nov/Dec one?

Where are the other ones?

Also how can I print an article from the ipad version or the Alexander one?

Last but not least??? Are there any upgrades to the app coming up soon? Mine shuts down quite often while turning the pages.

Thanks

Carlos, I would suggest deleting the app and reinstalling it. The app has already been upgraded, but you might not have the latest version.

Also, do not download issues until all the audio and video has been converted. The issue may show up on the iPad as available, but that happens a day before the AV is finished. Downloading an issue without finished AV will make it buggy and the app may crash.

You cannot print an article from either the iPad app or the digital issues on Alexander. You can print articles from the older issues on Alexander, which are simple pdf files.

Finally, the digital issues going back to January 2010 are located in the Archive folder, which is the uppermost button on the left when viewing the digital issues on a computer in Ask Alexander.

Hope this helps.

Richard,

I will do the app deletion as soon as I get home to see if that makes it. I am a little confused about do not download the issue until the audio video hasn been converted. Please elaborate on this if you would.

After loggin on into Alexander and clicking in the only visible issue of Genii Nov-Dec I get redirected to a page that asks me again for my username and pswrd. I put it back in and it says The login information that you provided is incorrect.

Not sure whats wrong or under what category can I find the archive folder.

I am managing the storage space on my iPad and noticed that my iGenii app, with documents, takes up 1.6 gigs. So I went through and deleted all the downloaded issues, but it still takes up 1.6 gigs. Is this a known issue or am I missing something?

Also the solution the keep the iPad from going to sleep while downloading an issue is to set some music playing. The iPad will not sleep while playing music.

Pete, try shutting down your iPad completely and restarting it. iPads have a known issue with "releasing" storage space on the flash drive and restarting will often clear it.

Tried shutting down; no help. Next step is to try deleting the iGenii app and redownloading, but that will have to wait until I get home.

Carlos, if you are seeing the page that asks you to login in on the iPad app, it's because your subscription has likely expired.

Not true, unless you also turn counter-clockwise and spit over your right shoulder while shutting down.

I uninstalled the app and re install it and the app still shuts down on its on. Just for the record I am using the ipad 3 rd generation. It does that randomly.

Don't know how to address that issue since it doesn't seem to be affecting anyone else unless you've downloaded an issue whose videos have not been processed yet, and trying to watch a video will cause the app to crash in that case. However, there are no issues up at the moment whose videos have not been processed. I downloaded the January issue onto both my iPads this morning and check and both work fine.
