iGenii Problems/Questions

Postby Frank Lehmann » July 21st, 2011, 9:38 pm

I just started using iGenii on an iPad and I have a few questions/problems -

1 It seems to take a very long time to download the issues using the apps download. Is this normal, or is there a quicker way to do it?

2 Does the app keep on downloading in the background, or does the iPad need to be fully on and running the iGenii app for it to download?

Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Frank

Yes, it takes a while for the issue to download. This is normal. You'll have a better experience reading the digital Genii if you make sure to check the box so that all the multimedia files download as well.

The app needs to be open in order for an issue to download. As far as I know, this is true of all apps for digital magazines.

When I know the issue is available (whether I want to read it at that moment or later), I open the app and tap the new issue to download it. Then I go away and do something else for five or so minutes. When I come back, it's downloaded.

Richard,

Thanks for the help. I was able to get it to work but for some reason it took me about an hour to download each issue.

I'm very impressed with the digital edition. I'll always be a paper person (I'm a hand bookbinder by profession) but the extras in the digital edition are great.

Is January 2011 the earliest issue that can be downloaded to an iPad? I love Ask Alexander, but it sometimes slows my reading when I have to wait for each successive page to download.

Thank you so much for making this a free addition to my Genii subscription.

Frank

Were you connected via WiFi or 3G? Generally, WiFi connections will be faster.

Frank, it sounds like you have a very slow connection. The pages on Ask Alexander load almost instantly for me.

The earliest digital issue available is January 2011.

Richard,
I have been traveling, thus the tardy response. The trick of deleting an issue, shutting down my ipad2 and then downloading it again worked for me. Thanks. .

Jim,

I'm using WiFi (Apple's AirPort Extreme). This is the first time I'm using it as other than just a router, so I'm going to need to explore its WiFi settings.

Thanks,
Frank

The fact it's wifi should make no difference. Can you go to www.speedtest.net, run a test and post the results?

Frank, if you're experiencing slow Ask Alexander response on your computer too, it's most likely that you simply have a slow connection to the Internet. You can use something like www.speedtest.net (from your computer, or download the iPhone app) and see if you're getting the speed that you're paying for from your ISP.

No problem--it's been there for quite a while.

Try this: exit the app and power off, then restart your iPad, then reopen the app. You should see it then.

You are logging in to your regular Alexander account, not the one related to Genii, that's why you don't see the flipping pages icon.

Gary, your 3 year sub is now registered correctly. iGenii showed up when the 3 year sub was updated.

You can check the status of your Ask Alexander subscriptions on the My Alex -> Preferences page. The subscriptions are at the bottom of the page and include both current and expired subs.

Hmm... I see the flipping page issue but when I click it I go to a new site where my Alexander log in doesn't work. I don't get the error saying my log in info is incorrect, it just doesn't take me to a new page. Do I need a coupon/token?

Fresh baby has kept me a bit busy as of late. Saw your email and I will keep an eye out for Dan's reply.
