Johnny Depp - Coin Magician(?)

I cannot believe no one has brought up the palm Johnny Depp performed in "Pirates of the Caribbean."

Not sure how to connect Johnny Depp with a CGI skeleton doing one steeplechase towards the end of the film. Watching a plot driven movie of a Disney ride... with a preview of the next Disney ride -> movie: Haunted Manision left me wondering what's gonna be next, "It's a Small World" or perhaps "Monorail" ?. All ahead for "Peter Pan" in the fall?

Loved that Pirate movie. But if you want to see an actor do a coin roll watch Val Kilmer in Tombstone or Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon 2, or Anthony Hopkins in Magic... :)

To be fair, Depp did palm the coin instead of dropping it into the chest. However, I think the somewhat dubious technique was to telegraph the move to the audience...

Take care, Ian

Val Kilmer did a simultaneous coin roll with both hands in 'Top Gun'.

I learned the coin roll from seeing Anthony Hopkins do it in a film called 'Magic'

Depp practiced for days to do that coin roll! I would love to see his character do a closeup act, though.

(Mr. Toad is a ride already based from a movie).

I would like to see the "Teacup" movie.

He practised that for days? Days???? I've been practicing that for years and am still not happy with it! Do I just suck, or what?

Mike.

I don't know if his coin technique and eye makeup combo is going to do well here on the east coast? Are videos and lecture tours planned?

We don't get David Ben: You don't get Johnny D.

I think the Makeup-Manipulation combo belongs entirely to Mr. McBride.

Johnny Depp based his character on Keith Richards(incidentally, there is a brief, hidden interview with Richards on the DVD), and I think, in Keith's case that standing upright in concert would constitute a manipulation act.

Jon,

On the subject of Val Kilmer, I believe it was actually in the movie "Real Genius" where he did the 2-handed coin roll. Not that I'm a V.K. freak, it's just that "Real Genius" is one of my favorite low-brow comedies. If he also did that particular move in "Top Gun", I don't remember it.

Kilmer did a coin roll in 'Tombstone' although, I'm not sure if that's his hand or not.
