Lou Gallo Died

Postby cataquet » October 1st, 2004, 12:25 am

Sadly, Lou Gallo died today (1 October).

For those that want to know more about Lou, pick up "Lou Gallo - The Underground Man". Lou was also the father of Mike Gallo.

Very sad. It was always great to be with him, to listen and to watch. As a tribute, check out his wonderful material in the Underground book and elsewhere, especially Precursor --you'll be doing yourself a favour, too, and think of Lou when you perform it.

Sympathies to Pauline, Mike and Joey.

My sincere condolences go out to Mike, the rest of his family and, of course, to all of Lous friends: A tremendous loss for our little community.

My sincere condolences to Mike and his family.

I had a brief chance to meet and talk with Lou at a small convention last year. It was inspiring to meet one of the legends and find out more about the person.

Goodbye Lou.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear this news. I had a great time with Lou on several occasions in and around Buffalo, NY like the night we commandeered Ray Mertz car in West Webster. This is a sad day. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Aloha Lou!!!

I got to meet Lou a few times at 4F. He was a terrific guy. My condolences to Mike and the rest of the Gallos.

How very sad. I never met Lou but he was responsible for very magical moment for me. I opened the mailbox one day and there was a package wrapped in brown paper. When I opened it, there was his book, The Underground Man, with a hand written letter from Lou informing me that the enclosed was curtesy of Mike Skinner and that he thought that I would particularly enjoy his 4 aces to royal flush routine contained therein. Of course, I learned it right away and continue to perform it today on a regular basis. Everytime I do it, I think of the kindness of these two wonderful people. My heartfelt sympathies to the Gallo family.

I met Lou at several FFFF conventions over the years. He was a gracious and thoroughly enjoyable man. I extend my condolences to Mike and his family.

This news, indeed, is saddening.

There are some figures in the magic landscape one imagines will always be there...that seem to exist as steadfast abstractions...and Lou, along with guys such as Eddie Fechter, Ray Mertz, Obie O'Brien, and the rest of the FFFF gang, are figures in THAT particular landscape...ones you assume will ALWAYS be there...

I had the privilege of meeting a sessioning and sharing thoughts with Lou regarding the subject we all love...at least a couple of times. The rest of the "sharing" (for me)came from his book, THE UNDERGROUND MAN...a renewable source of inspiration and material.

A few years ago I hoped that a story about the entire GALLO CLAN could be done...and now I think more than ever that such a story should be done...

Maybe now it will happen...?
THIS legacy deserves being memorialized and shared...

In the meantime,
My sympathies to Pauline, Mike and Joey.

Funny how life is. Yesterday for some reason, I just decided to take his book off the shelf and finaly read it. I spent the day playing with all his routines he incorporated with the pitch. I even called up a friend to discuss it with him after my first read.

Very Sad. His book I believe will always help keep him alive. My sympathies to the family.

Very sad news, indeed.
We'll try to get something together for the December issue.
The mischevious glint in Lou's eye when he was doing a magic trick was a wonderful thing to behold.
And, he kicked my ass on a regular basis with most of the tricks he did.

The Underground Man is in its own way an underground book in that you rarely hear anyone talking about it. Maybe only a handful of people have actually read it (or even heard of it, despite it having been published by one of magic's best-known publishers). But it's long been a favorite of mine. I know the Gallos are best known for coins, but don't pass up the card stuff in this book. I never met Lou, but would have liked to have been able to hang out with him. Sad news.

There was a short, sweet, and heartfelt memorial service for Lou in Buffalo this last Saturday. At the end of the service Dan Block and Vic Trabucco went through the Broken Wand Ceremony. A sad occasion, but a moving memorial. Rest in peace, Lou, and keep faking the bluff.

Paul
