Postby Jeff Stubb » March 9th, 2004, 10:39 pm

Anyone gone to this before?

Is it worth it?

Thanks

I can't say that it would be worth a trip all the way down from Bakersfield, but it's worth a trip all the way up from San Juan Capistrano!

It's like a convention dealer's room in The Magic Castle!

Is the Castle Swap Meet worth the time? Expense of travel? The five bucks to get in if you're not a member? I fly down from Boise, but there are magicians that travel from the East Coast, Japan, Europe, etc. More idols and illuminati per square foot buying, selling, etc. in the Magic Castle! Of course it's worth it. Go early and often. :D

I love the swap meet. Every time I go I fill up plastic bags with $200 worth of little things I couldn't possibly ever use. I call it "Divorce-in-a-Bag". When I get home I order everyone out of my bedroom, close the doors, then dump the contents of the bags on the bed. For the next several hours...days if it was a good haul...I explore every nook and cranny of that mountain of crap.

This year, my wife has scheduled a family vacation so I get back on the 17th, just a bit too late for the swap meet. I do not believe this was an accident.

D'you think she's onto you, David?

I especially liked your 'divorce in a bag' line, I promise to credit you when I use it after every lecture, swap meet, or convention. Have a nice vacation, though you'll need to find some other reason to lock yourself in the bedroom. I have three sons, so the reason(s) are built in ;)

David Regal:
You order, "everyone out of the bedroom." "EVERYONE"?! I thought you had to be Hugh Hefner to be needing to deal with, "everyone" in the bedroom!

I will be there.

I have a dumb question.

Does the dress code for the magic castle apply to this?

Don't tell me yes just to have me be the only one dress in a suit.

Thanks,

BiG Jeff

Hi Pete,

Just because I live in bakersfield doesn't mean I'm a bumkin. I wasn't born here and I have tried very hard not to let the [censored] bumkin culture rub off on me.

As for the Mears gang being from bakersfield, don't forget Kevin Harvick, and David carr. Although david carr doesn't live here, he's not that stupid, he is from here.

Big Jeff
