Mr. Peanut debuted in 1916.

Cardini began his professional career in 1917/18.

And Dick got drunk or inspired and decided to use billiards instead of giant peanuts?

Or are you suggesting they would not use him as a living representative so he used billiards on his own instead?

I sincerely doubt the caricature of a top hat, monocle and tux was novel to the Planter's icon. Making such a thing of a giant peanut was likely the inspired item there. I suspect Dick's act was not inspired by ad copy. Funny thought though. Thanks Max.

I know Tarbell did the art for the Leslie Salt girl (w/umbrella) tied into the slogan "When it rains it pours."

I wonder if he did the Planter's Peanut art as well?

Look out -- there's a girl with an umbrella on the loose out to bust your kneecaps.

But if I know Pete, he'll take her with a grain of salt.
