Persi Diaconis delivered a "talk" at Harvey Mudd College, in Claremont, California, on November 1. If
you go to the link at the bottom of the page mentioned above there is also
an article on shuffling that may be of interest to you.

How did you stumble on the Diaconis page? It is funny calling him a "professional" magician (when in fact he was really a professional gambler.

I also noticed that they were serving dessert after the lecture. Does anyone know what refreshments were served?

Well, not sure there, but the one I attended at Stanford, it was wine and cheese.

Very funny thing happened.

Persi had done several amazing card effects (premises that Ricky Jay--who was with me-- and I had never seen or heard of) that were *supposedly* mathematical (be we knew better).

During the wine/cheese segment an oriental mathematician said to Persi, "Professor Diaconis, it seems to me that on trick number seven that you were able to somehow UNSHUFFLE the cards."

(hehehehehe)!

I guess the spectator never heard of coolers? :p
Stay tooned.
