Magic in Tokyo?
Magic in Tokyo?
I will be in Tokyo at the end of March. Does anyone have any recommendations for magic venues (shops or shows) to check out while I am there?

It's been a while since I've been to Tokyo, but Hiro Sakai was performing bar magic at a place called Joker. And, of course, you have to visit Ton and Mama at Magicland. You're bound to run into someone famous there...

There are about 11 magic bars in Tokyo alone. Some fantastic stuff, and the guy called "The Master" at the Joker in the Ginza does absolutely amazing stuff. However, you should be aware that these types of magic bars cater to business people bringing clients, and there is usually a cover charge of up to $70 a person.
I also visited another magic bar called the "Rabbitt" that was really nice. If you visit Magic Land while you're over there, they will be happy to explain where some of these places are.

If you visit Magic Land, ask Mama-san if the show "Let's Magic" will be playing during your stay.
When I lived in Tokyo, the show ran once every 6 or 8 months at the Ginza Shogekijo. I understand that they still produce this show at least once per year.
Past performers have included The Napoleons, Yuka Shimoda, Tomo Maeda, Kennichi Kuroki and many others. I think that Max Maven appeared as a special guest once, and I was on the show three or four times. Great ambience, and excellent magic.
