Danny Gans is an impressionist that no one outside of Las Vegas has ever heard of.

SteveV-- Actually, Danny Gans has been performing at the Mirage for a few years now in his own theater. He just has an over-inflated ego and has been complaining about the S & R Marquee ever since their show was cancelled. As Richard stated, Danny is an impressionist/impersonator. His only other real claim to fame--that he is an ex-Minor League Baseball Player. The Mirage is considering bringing a Broadway-style production of The Beatles "Yellow Submarmine" into the S & R theater. The Mirage is still in negotiations with Cirque Du Soliel to make this new show a reality.

Just drove by the Mirage this morning and it looks like the work has started to remove the marquee of S&R. And so goes the end of this chapter. :(

Regarding Danny Gans...I had read an article some time ago off of the Danny Gans website, originally publsihed by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, that stated:

"...So David Cassidy will open at the Rio in January, and Danny Gans, former minor-league slugger on the verge of becoming a major entertainment-industry star, will share the marquee at the Mirage with the magicians Siegfried and Roy for two years, until they retire."

This article was written some time ago, but it tipped me of then that some people expected S&R to be retiring in the then, not so distant future, and that Mr. Gans would take over the big room.

Which would seem to be exactly what has happened.

Here's the store link, you'll find the quote toward the bottom of the article:

First, if he was a slugger he wouldn't have been in the minors. Keeping in mind I've not been in Vegas since the week they opened Circus Circus (I was 8 and my whole Vegas experience consisted of standing in a square made of tape with a bunch of other kids while we waited for our parents to leave the casinos and collect us and hopefully give us a roll of nickles), but is the entertainment quality so bad that an impressionist can get a big room like I imagine S&R worked in? If so then I'm packing up and moving to Vegas, sounds like I'd be a god there.

Noted in the September 1999 edition of Little Egypt Magic: "Danny Gans is human filth" was about the nicest thing Cintra could think to say in an impassioned and highly entertaining skewering of this wildly popular Las Vegas impressionist. She envisions a bizarre suicide pact carried out by Siegfried and Roy over their being followed by this act. If her assessment is true, one wouldn't blame them. Check her archived columns for all the dirty details.

As I recall, Ms. Wilson (Cintra Wilson of Salon) found Mr. Gans to be sexist, racist, and homophobic. Since Salon went pay-to-view, I no longer have access to the archived files.

Here is a direct link to the Salon Article.

You don't have to pay a cent to see it.

One can click "salon day pass" and watch a short commercial after which you get 24 hours of access to all the material on the site.

If Danny Gans is replacing Siegfried and Roy, then who is replacing Danny Gans?

He is not going into the S&R showroom, Mirage is likely putting a broadway Yellow Submarine in there.
