I love Chris, and I loved his act on FU... but did he REALLY fool them? I can't see how. I have heard Penn say more than once, if they figure out any part of the trick it's not a fooler, and it seems odd to me that Teller, at least, was fooled by much of it at all.

Chris was terrific. But I was surprised that he fooled them.

"Pick a number between one and four."

And Penn noticed the two card cases on the table. Hmm. Why does one deck require two card cases?

David Roth comes to mind.
Effect and method are inextricably linked.

Not to change the subject, but one part of David's routine did fool them, and although it was edited out David told me he called them on it. It actually fooled most of the people who saw it, because it was a sequence that David only revealed at the New York Coin Seminar and never published. There was actually a discussion about that here on the Forum after David appeared on the show.

Is that the servante in plain view?

Yes. It is his Open Servante idea. He removes the coins from a bag, then sits it behind the cup. The bag acts as the servante. He fried Latta and myself when we first saw it. Then he fried everyone at the NYCMS where he first released it. He told me that he fooled both Close and Thompson during his rehearsal. As you know, his performance wasn't his best, and everything he did on that set had been published...except for his open servante idea. My understanding is that during their post performance banter, they were talking as if they knew everything from the book, but David brought up the 3 coin vanish and they said he fooled them. I know it didn't show up that way on TV, but David did allude to it on the segment that was televised. My guess is that they tightened up the back and forth in post-production to make it flow better.

It certainly fooled me when he did it.
