Topas on Britain’s Got Talent
Topas on Britain’s Got Talent
German magician Topas appeared on this Saturday’s episode of BGT apparently producing a number of young ladies from a shower of foam.
His segment appeared to have been edited down however he did progress to the next round.

Re: Topas on Britain’s Got Talent
This season of BGT is surprisingly magic heavy in the early rounds…

Hard to tell. It's a drama production, so the footage of his face could have been taken from a break, or from watching a different act.

Indeed. In the very least they want the viewer left with the impression that Simon was not impressed.

The whole thing is fake, scripted, directed, and edited. You all know that, right?

It is so damned obviously fake that I think the show lacks credibility.
Re: Topas on Britain’s Got Talent
There was an uproar a week or so ago when an act got the ‘golden buzzer’ - immediately going through to the final.
It turns out the singer, who’s name escapes me, was Rebecca Ferguson’s singing voice in the film The Greatest Showman - so an already established act who, as a result, appears on the highest selling movie soundtrack since Saturday Night Fever.
The Great British Public cried ‘Fix!’

There's obviously 'made for TV' manipulation ... but Jonathan Goodwin's injuries are certainly real from his appearance on 'AGT Extreme' ... so not everything on the 'Got Talent' realm is always fake.

Of course I don't think his injuries are scripted. He's paralyzed! His stunt went wrong.

Does anyone remember the name of the guy who attempted to escape from a clear box/coffin which was buried in concrete? The weight of the concrete broke through the clear box and suffocated him.

Is Topas British?
I'm confused about the basic premise of the show...

Has Britain run out of talent and needs to import it now?

All the Got Talent franchises share performers … there’s no nationality requirement.
A good performance on one generally will guarantee invites on a number of others …

Thanks for posting this, Andrew--great song--I had no idea it was Loren Allred who actually did the singing in "The Greatest Showman"

I find the controversy interesting. Clearly, some in the British public are upset because she is a professional singer compared to the amateur majority that audition. Yet, these same folks seem to have no recognition that some of the magicians who get on are accomplished professionals as well.
I think this kind of goes along with Michael Close's idea that although the public realizes that there are good singers and bad singers, they tend to view magicians as one amorphous mass.
